should i upgrade to this engine?

I got an 84 z28, stock with the L69 HO engine 4sp auto, 85,000 original miles. clean and in great shape. I guy i work with wants to sell me his totally rebuilt 350 out of his 69 camaro. Here are the specs on that engine:

350 4-Bolt
.040 over bore
Forged pistons/rods/crank
world products sportsman II heads
malloroy unilite distributor
mallory coil
edelbrock performer RPM intake

he said its probably making around 425 hp. not sure if thats true though. and he's asking $1300. the block he said had 50,000 miles on it and the rest was just recently rebuilt. he's selling cause he wants to make the '69 fuel injected with the ls1 engine. the only thing thats keeping me from doing it is that my car is completly original, runs nice and clean. but the voice in my head keeps telling me i want more power. and would this be hard to transfer over to my car considering ther was all kinds of electrical stuff on mine? thanks.

A lot depends upon the cam. If it doesn't have too much overlap, you could put the engine under your computer controls and it would be fine.

However, you're going to have to assume a spread-bore type intake manifold (or adapter), and headers in order to support the thing.

425 horse is probably a pipe dream. Most anybody can pull numbers out of the air ("I know a guy with a 350 built just like this that dyno'd at 425"), but actually proving the output typically results in disappointment.

In your situation, I'd go ahead and buy the engine, put in a cam you know will work with the CC controls, an intake that will mount the carb and support the cam, put your original engine on a pallet in the corner of the garage, and go have some fun.

i agree, get mroedetails on the motor. who built it? what cam is in it? what compression? what kind of rods and pistons? answer these q's and you will know if the motor is worth it

Where are you from, or more specifically do they do emission testing where your at? If not, just disable the computer controls and throw the engine in as is.
