Shorties or TES
Searching shorties,
don't need A.I.R. what can you recommend for my 85 IROC 4bbl. I was told the Hedman are bad quality is it really like that ? Edelbrock offers the TES but with A.I.R. and a huge flange which is not what I need, no cat. overhere before year 88.

Re: Shorties or TES
Hooker shorties are my go-to favorite for street-performance 3rd gens (Holley owns Hooker). Dirt-simple install without jacking the motor up or any crazyness like that. Seals up every time. No starter clearance issues. Way better than stock manifolds. No ground clearance sacrifice (y-pipe is supplied with the headers). Get your shop to weld the supplied y-pipe to the front of your cat or intermediate pipe and you're good to go.
Available in ceramic coated or plain and with or without emissions fittings (Air tubes and O2 bung).
I've used them many times including on my wife's 92 Camaro (see signature, below).

Re: Shorties or TES
Ditto for me on Damon's choice. However, I *do* currently have Edelbrock TES 6872's on my Minirammed 385, and they flowed well enough for 396 RWHP. They probably would do well enough for your motor, assuming you clean up the insides of the collector openings with a die grinder first. See SIG.
