Shorties or longtubes?
Shorties or longtubes?
Guy's im gonna be getting exhaust for my camaro soon, and wanted to know if i should get shorties or longtube headers? I can't remember which supposedly does what in terms of performance. I don't want to modify my camaro too much, as in I aint gonna be doing no major engine work. As far as I'll ever go would be a cam and maybe port myn heads. Thats it. And that's a big maybe. If it helps any, I would like to try and make a little more power up top. Thanks fellas!
P.S. where the heck can I get a Y pipe at a cheap price for my Camaro? Check sig for my car's info.

Re: Shorties or longtubes?
Performance wise, long tubes are best (almost) no matter what. However, typically shorties cost less, fit better with the stock exhaust system, and are in other ways easier to deal with. For a header to truely do its intended job, it must have equal length primaries and it is rare to find an equal length shorty header.
Re: Shorties or longtubes?
Shorties are all you need on a 305 unless you plan on going 400hp+. LT's are HORRIBLE on third-gens.. and the gains will hardly be anything over Shorties. Plus they are 10x more of a headache due to ground clearance and ease of install.
Oh ya nice talking to you Jon

Re: Shorties or longtubes?
shorties,,,on a mostly stock ride the performance gain from a long set vs shorty wont out weigh the cost and issues long tubes bring.shorties can be bought to bolt and go,all emissions and accessories included.long tubes probably wont have emission fittings, depending on model you might need to redo bracketry up front, have to buy a new y pipe of some kind or make up a new exhaust, your ground clearance goes to crap...all for a possible few hp???i know which way i would go

Oh man Jon.. I've been so busy with school, getting back with the ex-g/f (
loooong story on that one), working, as well as getting situated with a new car because the Bronco had to go
(dont know if I told you or not...)
Hows the car running though? I assume you got rid of all the bugs and kinks?
