i just joined this site not long ago and have alot of questions for you guys so please bear with me.

my car (stock 85 tpi 5.0 auto) shifts regularly right up till 4th, it comes a little early, and is extremely short, then shifts in to OD at around 45 (taking off at regular speed). its not a big problem, just wondering if its normal for these cars?

My car shifts in OD at 40mph with light throttle applied. At normal acceleration, I shift into OD at 45mph.

 

It is completely and 100% normal for a 700R4 to shift into od at around 40-45. Mine did at around 42mph under light acceleration so it's nothing big.

 

ok, but is 4th sopposed to be really shot too? i mean its in that gear for like 2 seconds. is that normal too?

you may be feeling the torque converter locking up right after it shifts to 4th, which is normal.

 

If you lighten the "wings" of the governer, you would change the shift points too, I believe. Rossler trans did that when I wanted to shift a little higher.

You can order the governor for the 91-92 FB police package from the dealer. It will move your WOT shift point to 5200 rpm......
