sdpc engine
hi there anyone driving a 350 H.O. crate engine which is available from sdpc ? how much hp will it offer without headers ? i was told that my tranny th-700r4 would not handle a ZZ4, what about this 350 H.O. ? what would you recommend to the tranny making stronger ?
85 IROC-Z, 4wheel disc, double air snorkel, t-tops, sbfc, ascd ss-hood, flowmaster cat back but no cat, k&n

your stock 700-r4 in good working condition will handle the standard power of a 350 crate. however you go adding some custom worked heads and a good breathing intake/exhaust then you'll have to have the 700 rebuilt really strong....which even still will depend on how much power your working with.
understand that its a definate chance your trans will go if its in bad shape or alot of miles but otherwise i wouldn't worry about it. just take the cost of a rebuild into consideration. plenty of people running 700's into some really quick time slots that a normal 350 would never usually see.

what times were you putting down with it and did you do the build yourself? i've seen quite a few that weren't put together the way they should not last....as i said it all depends but if it's built right you should be ok. sounds like you had too much power or it wasn't built as good as it could have been...then again you never know.
i ran my stock original 700-r with my mild l98 in the high 13's with no issues....run it on nitrous for about 2 years without issues as well in the low 13's. had one rebuilt for my tpis 383 which was an imbarassing 309/310 at the wheels with no issues for over a year. i have yet to see what it will do with the new 388 but it should hold, as i said there are plenty out there running them with out issues so....
