I have not used it. However, it's main advantage is that it lets you use some kick-a$$ heads (Vortec or FB). The Vortec and FB heads are really good (as compared to stock) but there are also some really good NON-Vortec style heads out there.

If I was building a full-tilt TPI I'd start with my head choice and work from there, no the other way around.

Even if the Vortec TPI base manifold is a little small compared to some others (don't know if it is or isn't) I'm sure that's nothing that a quick extrude hone wouldn't take care of.

crazyk1le, I am looking into the same setup. Ilove the fasburn heads but there is only 2 intakes that fit them. The miniram 3 and SDPC one. I just wish I had more info on how good the base is and if it has potential.

My dad has one on his car. Its made by Edelbrock, so its the same as theirs but with the right intake bolt pattern and runner shape for the Vortec heads. Yes its a good piece.

Those pics are great!

Actually there is a third choice for FI vortec setups. GM offer a Ramjet intake for the vortec heads. I also beleive that you can use a lot of original tpi parts to make it work, i.e. fuel rails, injectors, wiring harness, ecm. Just need a TB and some other odds and ends.

Myself I am going the Scoggin dickey route this spring. Those pics demonstrate what a quality looking peice that is.

The Ramjet is a great choice, and I am going to switch to it once I get my new engine built. (Currtently I have the SDPC base and SLP runners) The TPI fuel rails won't work. You need the Ramjet intake, fuel rails, TB, TPS, and IAC. The tough part is getting the throttle cable and such to work, since they connect on the opposite side of the TB. There is a great, pretty long tread over on Thirdgen.org about the conversion. Plus the set up will only cost what a SDPC base and SLPs will run you.

For a more mild set up (<350 HP) the SDPC base is awesome.

McMillan said you can use an LT4 intake on the Vortecs, and there is a Vortec Mininram.

They're finally getting popular

Nope, LT4 intake won't work on vortecs. It will work (modified) on Fastburns since they have the traditional style bolt holes. I think the same goes for the Miniram.

so whats the big difference between the HSR and the ram jet? my 2 setups im looking at now are
vortec heads,SDPC tpi intake, SLP runners, ported plenum and mods in sig.

second would be the HSR with maybe a 52MM so it looks nice. which one would be better off

I have no first hand expirence of the vortec/LT4 intake but here is where I got my info.

Why cant you modifiy the bolt holes in the LT4 intake to apply to the Vortec heads like you have to to get them with the normal heads? I thought LT4 bolt holes went directly down like Vortecs, too. Im just curious because if/when I got to an 8 injector setup Id like to use this.
