running rich...tryed simple stuff...need help
my car is running very rich and I realy need to figure out why and how to fix it. Im only getting around 10-12mpg.
Ive posted this on another board but havent gotten much help. Im hoping between both boards I'll be able to get enough info to fix this.
here is the link to the post on the other board

I figure it would be easer to post the link rather than repost all the info here.

Might just be water in the gas tank. Try adding a water remover and a fuel system cleaner in your next 2 tanks of gas and see if it helps. Failing that I'd say rebuild the injectors because they may be leaking raw fuel into the intake. From the pic you posted on thirdgen.org I'd say thay aren't leaking though. Maybe your fuel pressure regulator is shot? Excessive fuel pressure would make it run real rich, and I don't think your computer can compensate for that. The FPR is built into the TBI unit by the way.
Dirty injectors will sometimes spray crooked and get themselves wet, plus there's a lot of splashing goingon with a TBI, it's normal.
Shine a bright flashlight in the T/B, opposite you and observe the spray pattern. It should look like a uniform circular curtain. Breaks in the circle or misdirected sprays indicate clogging.
I like cleaners such as "Berrymans B12" and "DuraLube"Fuel System treatment.
There can be a couple of causes for a fuel smell, 1)-the fuel tank "vent-valve" is bad, located over the driver's side rear axle. It's suposed to allow air to enter the tank under acceleration but keep fumes inside. 2)-A leak common near the filter. 3)-Bad 02 sensor sometimes NOT setting an SES light but marginally bad resulting in a false reading and richening the mix. 4)-Bad charcoal canisiter or its filter, behind the headlights.
Solutions:
I would first replace the fuel filter, fixing any leaks.
Then use some "B-12 Chemtool"fuel system cleaner,1 bottle to 1/2 tank a couple of times. Then replace the 02sensor especially if it burns your eyes near the rear of the car. That to me is 1/2 burnt fuel, high in CO(carbon monoxide) content.

If so then that might be the problem.
