Im a newbie to working on cars since this is my first car. But when i rev the engine (no not like ricers) just checking everything out when the tach reachers around 3200 RPM it suddenly jumps to about 4500 then jumps back and forth i have never seen this on another car and my dad doesnt know whats wrong either.

Any posts would be much appreciated.

 

Buy yourself a tach from any auto parts store and hook it up. Be careful with it so you can return it later. If it exhibits the same symptoms then the problem lies in the sending area. If not, the problem lies in your tach.

 

already tried using my neighbors tach off his 85 firebird it still showed the same problem
