You need to rent or borrow a puller for it. Also, use the correct installation tool which also be rented or borrowed. Of course if you plan on doing a lot of cam swaps, motor rebuilds, etc. you should consider buying them.

I just did that myself yesterday.. Get the correct puller.. I left the Crank bolt in the crank, without the washer, and then put a small peice of wood in between that and the thread on the puller. It was on pretty right, but surely it was coming off. On installation, get the proper tool as Mod313 said. DO NOT try and hammer it on!!!

you can tap on the balancer with a hammer while using the puller to jostle the balencer loose the vibrations from lightly tapping help to keep the balancer sliding off.

*** i agree don't pound on or off you will damage something ***

I saw just the other day that you can borrow the puller and some other tools from autozone. It takes a deposit(so they know your not going to rip them off) but they give it back when you bring back the tool.

Not being funny, but is called a damper. Just thought you would like to know.

Anyway, you can try this. Take the bolt out of the end of it and start the car up. As soon as the car starts and runs, cut it off. Sometimes the balancer will loosen. Good if you don't have the puller.

And yes, Autozone has the loan a tool deal. Just pay for the tool up front, and they refund your money when you take it back. The tools are low quality but the pullers have worked for me. Don't try to use their tubing flare kits, they suck.
