Rebuilding the distributor q's..

I'm working on an 84 Camaro Z28 with a swapped in 5.7L engine for a friend of mine. Trying to isolate problems with ignition I tested the distributor and found the pickup coil to be shot. I had a couple of questions I was hoping some of you could help me with. It's an AC Delco Reymer (spelling?) distributor.

Is there a way with a multimeter or otherwise, to test the ICM to see if it is bad?

The distributor had alot of oil, very thin in consistency, coating the interior and all of the ignition components including the coil, ICM, etc. Would this cause problems with ignition, and should it be clean and dry?

In relation to the above question, under the coil pole there is a small ring-type gasket, with a consistency like steel wool that covers some small resevoirs around the distributor's center. Should that gasket seal, or is the oil inside supposed to leak out? If it should seal, where can I find a new gasket for it?

I appreciate any and all help provided, and can post pictures if any clarification or detail is needed. Thanks again.

you can take off the ignition control module and take it to your local AutoZone who will test it for you...
