rearend

ok i'm about a month from having my stroker moter in the car and running and i'm wondering how well the 9 bolt is going to hold up. i really don't want to have to put another rearend in, but i would rather do that than have it break at a stop light one day. thanks,
Derrick

It stronger then a 10-bolt and a lot cheaper then your other choices. Just don't be dumb the way you drive the car with the new motor. Being Dumb will break the rear not the motor.
My opinion.

i'm not worried about the motor. im going to break it in just fine, it will be the last thing that will break. the rearend is really going to be the weak link; built motor, built tranny, built driveshaft, hardcore tork-arm welded to subframes(bar running in between sub frames). so all i'm really worried about is the rearend.

I ran a 3.27 geared 9 bolt to high 11's with a 383 stroker at 117 mph with no problems.

My current diff is a 9" with 31 spline axles.

I would say that you could get a setup for about 2G+ if you don't car about the brakes in a Ford 9.

i'm not looking to spend 2000 dollars on a rearend right now, and all i was really wondering is if and how long will this 9 bolt hold.
thanks,
Derrick

Put it this way, with an A4, the 10 bolt held up for a long while. If you could find some sort of cover with a girdle on it for your rear end it would be good.

No such thing as of yet for the 9-bolt. Miles was supposed to be making some but he keeps putting it off....TA Performance is currently designing one but it's gonna be a couple months in the making.

leave the 9 in there. its a strong rearend. ive seen people running big blocks with a 9 in the rear. i say wait and see if it breaks, which i doubt it will, and then spend the money for a new rear. no point in blowing thousands if you dont need too

Yep, they've been talking about it a lot on TGO lately. I'd trust the 9-bolt for a while. With your automatic and street tires, I see no problem. Put slicks, or even DR's on, and it's a new ballgame.

hopefully it will last long enough to get a good chunk of money saved up for the 12 bolt. the car is however getting a 3000 stall with drag radials and a good shot of nitrous so i guess things arent looking so good.

i was talking about the 9 bolt BW. 9inch didnt come in F cars... i wouldnt even bother getting a 12 bolt. 50% of the people who buy them dont realize how strong a stock rear is when its built right. they get the 12 or 9 and its over kill for the car, not that theres anything wrong with overkill. put it this way, a built 10 bolt with axels, posi unit, gears, cover and bearing set is (on average) 600 bucks cheaper then the cheapest mosar 12 bolt and is much stronger then it too. those BW 9 bolts are hella strong for stockers, and can take a thrashing.

something funny to add, i had a mustang on the rack the otherday for some suspension work, the guy some how pulled out the passangers side axel housing 1 1/2 inches from the diff. ive never seen something like that before on a stock car. makes you wonder about ford rears... to top it off, after i told him and showed him the damage, the guy says ford saw it and told him it was fine?! lol then he says after the work was done, "who wants to buy a mustang?" yeah, count be out
