rear axle
Hi my name is Hector and i live in Monterrey Mexico and i have a doubt about the rear axle of my camaro and i wanna know if somebady can help me
(sorry but my english is not very good)
I have a camaro 1983 V8 (350 ci) and automatic transmition but 1 year ago my transmition was broken and i changed for a manual of 4 speeds from a montecarlo ss 1984 my original rear axle was a 3.07 (40:13) and i change by 2.77(36:13) with posi and disc brakes ... my question is how so good work this rear axle with this transmition (manual 4 speed) and what kind of transmition used this rear axle
one more time sorry for my english and tanxs for your help

Hola Lopez,
A 1983 Camaro used a 305 V8. If you have a 350 V8, then someone else besides GM put it in.
Your choice of differential gearing (36:13) is biased towards high-speed driving and good fuel efficiency rather than performance. How it reacts to your engine is very difficult to determine by us unless you can provide more details.
1) You need to figure out the four ratios of the 4-speed.
2) You need to know how the engine is built.
Your engine should probably be built for low-speed torque to be compatable with that 2.77 differential. If you want to make the rear axle more compatable with a higher RPM performance engine, you need to look at a differential ratio in the neighborhood of 3.42 to 4.11.
Your 2.77 rear axle ratio will be great if you are looking for gas mileage for commuting to and from work.
Monterey sounds like a great place to be right now: It's cold and icy outside where I live.
