Radiator question!!!
Radiator question!!!
I'm trying to outfit my '83 Z28 with a set of electric fans. The choice of fans and placement are the easy part. However I took a good look at my shroud and engine driven fan today to discover that my radiator appears to be held in place by my shroud.
Is this the case? Or is there a brace that I'm not seeing by not having yet taken the shroud off. Also where is a good ignition controlled hot wire to connect my fan to?
Thanks!!!!

Re: Radiator question!!!
your radiator is held in place by your shroud. the simple solution to that problem is get the shroud out of the car that you are swapping the electric fans from or go to the junkyard and get one its just a small plastic piece and would prolly run you five bucks... i have seen some radiators held in with zip ties but that route is never advisable.. lol.
you should be able to find a good hot lead in your fuse block that isn't being used i know mine had a spot that was marked accesory and didn't have anything hooked into it.

Re: Radiator question!!!
I was actually going to get brand new fans, the idea to go pull them out of another car totally slipped my mind. Any specific make/model that I should look for when it comes to getting used fans? (All of the camaros at the local junk yard have been picked over)
Re: Radiator question!!!
In the way of new electric fans I'm wanting to do two fans. Like 2 10" fans, one that will be connected to my ignition, the other connected to a toggle switch. I've found a set of new fans that push 2,800cfm but they're pricey ... with this set up shuold I worry about that much air flow? Or go with something substantially lower? Maybe 1,200cmf - 1,500cfm.
Re: Radiator question!!!
I would prolly go the junkyard route as i got dual electric fans and the shroud for $40 and it was all a direct bolt in, you should be able to get a set for under $80 on ebay. Then you could save the money you would have spent on those high dollar fans on some cosmetic or performance upgrades to your camaro.
I would just look for some camaro ones i have no idea which other models might fit, possibly a caprice or something like that.
You shouldn't even need to use the other fan unless you are running in some really warm weather.
