quick imputs from people with an auto car i was curious Stock shift ****.. Options?

why do i see so many different types of shift ***** for the 700r4 in the third gens (eg. leather ball, square looking one...) were they dependant on the year of production or the options the car had.

my car is an 83 z28 and i had the black leather stictched ball before i got the megashifter.

i believe for the third gens the z28s and irocs had the round ball always -and rs's had the square ones unless they got the upgraded interior? thats what my 1985 dealers brochure shows. my 85 berlinetta has the upgraded interior but i have the square ****.

I read somewhere that cars that came with a 350 were supposed to have the square shifter. I'm not sure if that's correct though.

It differs for all years...I know Camaros predominately used the round ***** and the Formulas used the T-Handle looking ones.

i think 85-86 IROC's had the round ball and 87+ IROC's had the square ****. motor size didnt matter i dont think b/c mine has the square **** and it was originally a 305. but i do have the "upgraded" interior w/ the overhead consol and such.

I put the square camaro shifter in my 88 Formula since it looks cooler than the t-handle style. I got it from a 95 Camaro.

I'd like to put this issue to rest with an official answer. As far as the automatics were concerned, all received a round **** from 1982 - 1986 and the "contoured" (square) **** from 1987 - 1992 with only one exception, the 1984 - 1986 Berlinetta. These have the square ****. There were no "optional" ***** available.

Note: All Z28's / IROC-Z's ***** were leather wrapped (round or square).
