Questions About My '90 IROC-Z...

i was curious... what does a stock 90 iroc-z 5.7 L do in the 1/4 mile?

the only things ive done to my car so far is that i've changed the cap and rotor, plugs, wires(8 mm), new k&n air filters, and cut out the air boxes and put some ac duct for that free ram air mod i saw on thirdgen.org. i can feel more power comming from the car now that i've done these few changes. the car also came with a flowmaster exhaust (dual pipes). what do you think i'd run with all these mods? you think gutting out the cats would help too? cutouts?

im scheduled to run a 2002 cobra (stick shift... but ive heard he's sucks at shifting) next week or the week after when this kid comes back from vacation... he's afraid of running LT1's and LS1's, but he's not too scared of running an auto L98 so my friend told him he's got a nice iroc waiting to cook his ***. im going to take out some weight from my car as well from gutting my cats, but does anyone else have any suggestions on some quick cheap/free mods to do to kill a snake? i dont just want to beat him by a car... i want to embaress the living crap out of him infront of all his friends. i graduated from that school in 2002 with my 67 camaro being one of the fastest cars in the parking lot (next to this kid's twin turbo celica supra), so i have a reputation to keep... hehe. thanks for all your help guys... ill reply to this post with anything i do to the car, and with the details of the race when it all goes down. ill probably take the car to the track on friday to see what it does... ill put the times on my sig when it hapens peace

oo and if you know anything that i should take off from my car to reduce weight, lemme know... the title says the car weighs about 3400 lbs (full options except for t-tops [dont think 90's came with t-tops though]) so im looking to strib a few lbs so she's not so heavy, hehe

I would suggest nitrous. Other than that I dont think you have much of a chance at beating him in a bone stock L98 unless hes a really sh!tty driver. Most stock L98s run just inside the 14s I think.

Your car should be good for mid-high 14s. And like DarthIROC stated, you're outclassed with that Cobra. Your pushing about 250hp, while he's making around 320hp, with better gearing. My advice would be to cut the race short - to like 70mph or so. Your torque advantage against his DOHC and inability to drive (hope that's the case ) will have you way out in front early on, with him flying by you once you hit 3rd gear. Don't go up to 100 or so, you will get beat! It will take more than free mods or a cutout to keep up. Know your strengths and use them to your advantage. Hint: torque

well... to be honest with you, i was thinking about putting a nitrous kit... but that would be cheating lol you think a 50 shot would make enough power without giving it away that im using nitrous? or should i just go for a 100 shot? i want to spray 150 at the track, but if i spray on the cobra, i dont want him to notice (ehh he probably wont notice, he's a flaming idiot, lmao) so i'll probably go low... what do you guys think?

things like tire pressure, remove spare tire and jack, only have a bit of gas in tank, bag of ice on the plenum just before race, get some used sticky tires to throw on the back...

****, forgot to mention it's a convertable cobra with a body kit (not like the body kit matters though)... it's got some extra weight that's gonna help me just a lil

id say a 150 shot is youre only hope in hell. Its not really cheating either he could spray if he wanted to put down the cash for a nitrous system. Anyways cobras are fast and youre not going to make up that much ground even if hes not a great shifter. Your best chances include....nitrous....him having a ****ty launch....preying to god.....past that if youve got some money to burn and that reputation means anything to you get some heads, cam and intake on order quick time.....thatd teach him =)

well... put it this way...he beat my friend who has a 84 300zx by only 3 cars... and i blew my friend out of the water... thats the only reason my friend told him to race me... cuz he thinks i'd give him a run for his money. i have the advantage out of the whole cuz he can't take off for ****, but your right... if im going to beat him, i might as well beat him so bad that he'd be terrified to run another f-body again. but the truth of the matter is that i dont have all that money for heads, cam, headers and all the good stuff i wanna get (eventually i'll have it all). im going to the junk yard tomorrow to see if i can find some L98 corvette heads and maybe an LT1 cam... should i look for anything else while im there?

about 99% of the 2002s DONT make advertised power...
most are around the 290-300 range....yea hes makin more power then you..BUT its all top...i cant count the times i pulled them to 35-40 in my G92 LB9...they dont have anyhitng down low were the TPI is really strong..

another thing is about your car...what gears do you have?...the 2.77's will be good for a 14.5 or so...
3.23's will be a hi 13 if you can get it goin
look for RPO's G80/G92/ or i forget the RPO for 3.23's
those cars only ran mid 13s with the best driver on STREET TIRES
id say sa you sit right now...your putting out 255 hp or so..but well over 350 ft pounds...were as the BRA is like 315 ft pounds...
thats why my LB9 pulls them out of the whole...TPI mid range baby!

if he cant drive..youll spank him out of the hole..and spank him when he tries to shift....
bottom line...youll eat his lunch to half track..after that its a toss up between your gearing and his driving ability....either or WILL decide the race...

LOL I couldn't get over that one. Typical Rustang driver huh?

I'd have to agree with the others here. You'll get him out of the hole, but if he can at least get his car into gear I don't think you'll take him to the end. But don't worry, it wouldn't take much at all to get the V

Save up some money and race him again if you don't win this time

yeah... that was my second option... my 67 would rip him a new one, but i'd rather get him in the iroc if i can. the 67's got a gasket leak on the carb right now and the steering on the car turned to crap after my dad ragged on it for about 6 months (i gave it to him for fathers day as a gift but then he gave it back to me cuz he knew i missed it)... i dont trust that car yet, gotta fix the steering

and if i lose in the iroc... i'll be back after i get myself a job (just finished school). ill pour all the money i can into the iroc so i can illiminate the rodent (mustangs) problem in my neck of the woods

Hell yeah. I mean don't get me wrong I'm 100% American and all, but something about newer mustangs...grrr! I'm planning on putting enough juice into my daily driver Firebird to take stock mustangs, minus an 03 Cobra. But the SS will more than take care of that
