Exclamation Problem when going full throttle

Hey I'm not entirely sure what is wrong here but since I've owned my '87 Z28 with TPI, whenever I gave it full pedal to the floor gas my car just pretty much craps on itself and doesn't give any power just revs up passed redline and I repeat, delivers absolutely nothing to the wheels it feels. However if I play with the throttle and let off a bit it will switch and put me back in my seat, but I am definitely lacking a bunch of horsepower due to this. I had a friend who is a former mechanic and camaro owner check this out and he said he is unsure but we will start by changing my timing. Any ideas here?

have you checked your throttle cable...might be a little loose or not entirely seated right. it def could be timing but seriously doubt it if everything else runs right during regular driving. do you have any warning lights on. if so it might be an ecm problem. troubleshoot it with proper steps. i'm no mechanic but that is what i would do. all else fails. take it to a shop!

Auto or manual tranny? If auto, it sounds like the tranny isn't shifting. Could be due to low transmission fluid or the cable may need to be adjusted.

Then it definately sounds like the tranny isn't shifting. Mine has a tranny leak and does the same thing when it gets low. If you have plenty of power and the car redlines when you punch it, then I would get the transmission looked at. Good luck!
