Question Pre 87 SBC, LS1 or LT1 Induction System

In preparing my pre 87 sbc, I was traditionally using a factory Z-28 aluminum hi-rise intake and Holley combination but I'm now interested in the later market induction/injection systems. Will any of the LS1 or LT1 units swap onto this older block with my Twisteed Wedge Heads?

The Accel SR manifold does not car what year the manifold is as to whether it is pre or post 87. LT1 will mean you have to drill a distributor hole. Are you set on the TFS heads? If so I would strip them bare to aluminum and put in new hardware or you might regret it. I did and will never buy TFS anything again except for a boat anchor.

ls1 will definatly NOT bolt up...everything about it is different...

i know you could have the lt1 intake manifold machined to mate to standard heads...but you may as well just get a superram or something like that

Isnt the LS1 intake mostly plastic though? You cant port it. The big advantage of the LS1 is the heads. They have a 15* valve angle in comparison to the normal 23* of gen I heads, not to mention they flow better anyway.

You wouldnt see much more pwer from an LS1 intake over an LT1 intake if any. And you can posrt the LT1 intake.

Another idea for you is to send out your existing Z28 Hi-rise intake and have it machined for fuel injector bosses and fitted with fuel rails. Check out Howell Engine Development, among others. There's several places that will retrofit your intake for fuel injectors, then sell you a throttle body that bolts in place of the carb. If I ever do a classic car, that's the way I'll go. It depends on what you want, really. The LT1 intake can be retrofitted, but be careful on how the coolant lines are assembled on the front part of the intake. I am somewhat leery that enough coolant can be passed through the retrofit jobs I've seen. If I were to use an LT1 intake, I'd probably have some 3/4 inch i.d. aluminum tubing TIG welded into place to serve as the coolant passages.

Stop talking LS1, it will not work!!!

The LS1 ports are: intake, exhaust...intake, exhaust...intake, exhaust...intake, exhaust.

LT1 and older SBC's are: Exhaust, intake...intake, exhaust...exhaust, intake...intake, exhaust
