Performance problem

:help: Hey I've got a 1988 camaro Iroc-z with a 5.0 v8(TPI) 5-speed. I have a problem that has been bugging me for a while now. When I first purchased this car it was very, very fast, it would burn tires while rolling with little acceleration. Back then my idle was 1500 rpm.

Then my tranny broke. Ever since then I have replaced the: TRANNY, STOCK SHIFTER(HAD SHORT SHIFTER) FUEL PUMP, FUEL FILTER, BOSH SPARK PLUGS +2(HAD +4 PLATIMUN), SPARK WIRES, OIL, OIL FILTER, DISTRIBUTOR CAP, ADJUSTED THE THROTTLE, DRAINED AND REPLACED COOLANT, NEW RADIATOR CAP, NEW TOP RADIATOR HOSE, IDLE AIR CONTROL, MAF SENSOR, BATTERY(OLD ONE WAS OPTIMA).

It is no longer as fast as it once was and will not burn tires while rolling. The idle is now at about 700. the car runs like **** before 2000 rpm and lags acceleration but once I pass 2000 rpm while switching through gears it runs smooth and accelerates O.K. Also it sounds like theres is some sort of ticking noise coming from the back of the motor. There was a time where we had the firing order wrong and that lasted a long time, could that have messed something up? Could my problem be timing? I have been told a lot that its my SUPERCHIP causing all this trouble.

It has MSD ignition, ADS superchip, Flow Masters, k & n air filters, 20w-50 oil, k & n oil filter, accel performance 8mm spark wires and bosh platinum 2's(might have burned).

Re: Performance problem

First off the idle is right in line with where it is supposed to be with a maunal transmission. The auto will idle a little bit higher but only 50-150 rpms.

Since the purchase of the car have you done a oil change? The ticking noise might be from abuse from the previous owner, but that is just speculation. Have you looked at the TPS at all? Is it reading the correct voltage? It should read .54mV at idle and IIRC 4.6 WOT.

Re: Performance problem

I hate bosch plugs, bought a set of them for like 90 bucks or something for the bosch 4 platinums.. My car ran like crap.. took them back and got ac delco plugs car ran like she was supposed too.. That might be your problem.. Just a thought.. I know, I too was like but I bought the most expensive plugs how could they not work well?, I still cannot answer that question, just know that both my chevy's 96 tahoe, 86 Iroc both love AC Delco plugs.. It might not be your problem, but it was mine, and lights went off when you said that you had put them in.. Do you have a MSD Coil? Did you change the rotor or just the cap? Optima battery's are like lifetime warrantied, did you just throw it away? Kinda like ventvisors or auto vent shade they are lifetime warrantied, give them the broken ones and they will send you new ones....

Re: Performance problem

Well, you went a heat range down with the +2s right? Maybe you should go back up to the +4s? Pull a plug and see if it is showing signs of overheating. Also are they gapped well according to your mods?
