Oxygen sensor Q: How far from head??

Guys.. i just put custom headers on my 1989 350 TPI. the thing is.. i don't know exactly what distance from the head do i need to put the oxygen sensor? Is the distance really crucial?

Thanks.

In a perfect world I'd say put it as close to the exhuast port as possible (o2 sensors like being hot). However, I would think that getting readings from all 4 cylinders would be better than just one, so put it in the collector. As much as possible try to poistion it so it will 'see' the exhaust from all 4 cylinders. The distance from the ports isn't as important, especially if you had them ceramic coated.

Also, don't position it where water can collect on the sensor (like not mounted on the bottom of the pipe) O2s hate water.
