Open Element w/ Cowl Vs. Stock

What are your opinions? Which do you think will be better for performance?

1) Stock Z28 Single snorkel air cleaner
2) K&N X-treme flow assembly (Open/Top element)
Note that I have a Harwood bolt-on w/ 3" Cowl
Thanks, Drive fast.

Re: Open Element w/ Cowl Vs. Stock

Im in California in Santa Barbara. Man, everyone is giving me **** for wanting to order the KN extreme flow open element when i get some $ lined up for the camaro again. Saying that an open element gets hotter air (understandable) but doesnt the cowl help induction?

Oh, And the hood fit is meteocre. The fenders arent set properly yet, but that doesnt seem to be the problem. I was planning on taking my car to a body shop to have them look at it later on.

Cool Im in Fresno. There is going to be a meet near you on the 28th. Its gonna be in Nipomo. You should check it out

Dont listen to those people telling you not the get the extreme setup. The stock setup is crap. When I installed my open element with my stock hood I felt a big difference, even though I am getting hot air. Having a cowl induction hood is definetly a plus for you also allowing the hot air to escape. Thats the setup I plan to go with, just need to get my cowl hood

Re: Open Element w/ Cowl Vs. Stock

I completely agree. The open element is so much better than stock and having a cowl induction hood gives you all the more reason to go with an open element and K+N Xstream Lid. Like someone said on another forum, "It's better to get a lot of hot air than a little bit of slightly cooler air." The factory system doesn't really take in that much cooler air than people think.
