over on TGO Dan Burk has a tech article on "how to build a better 10 bolt" me im a 9 bolt (not 9 inch) guy and i love em but its not finding the parts, its the cost of the parts. im currently looking for an empty 10 bolt housing to build for my 89 formula so i can rebuild my 9 bolt and leave it put up.
Yea I read Dan Burks article as well, and found it to be intriguing. I use to have a 9 bolt in my IROC originally, but the fact it had a 2:73 gear and the parts are hard to find/expensive too. I traded it for my current 10 bolt, and now I'm just rebuilding it to give my self piece of mind.

By the way "quickchicken" I noticed you live purdy close to my Dads side of the family. I have relatives in Olive Branch, South Haven, and few other towns in that area. I usually make a trip down there once a year.

Just an update as to were I'm at right now, I pretty much need to just install the Powertrax, then the axles. Oh I found out through the guy who's been given me pointers at the rear end shop don't use Raytech crush sleeves, because they weld them. He showed me a couple of samples of what happens, they split at the weld. And if I didn't say so all ready, don't use the new smaller head bolts for the carrier. As he showed me what happened to a couple of rear ends he had to fix because the bolts separated from the ring gear/carrier and destroyed the internals.

I've heard that too! But this is a modified sports car not a Cadillac, plus my exhaust is pretty loud anyways so I probably won't hear it at least not enough to bother me.

Mine did come with the cross pin, which I believe is what your referring too. But I bought my Powertrax from a guy on TGO. So I can't be sure if he just included that with it when I made the purchase. Although I do believe it was part of the kit. As far as what it looks like, its the egg looking item in the second pic next to the torque wrench and in front of the open rear end from my previous post.

Just get a used Limited slip or a Torsion carrier and some better gears. The carriers can be had for around $100 in forum for sale sections and a lot of S10s and blazers came with 3.73's stock. Just check them for RPO code GT4.

If you are going to go through the trouble of rebuilding it, do it right.

You can call local rear end shops also, and ask them if they have any used carriers laying around for your application. I picked mine up for $45.00!

Considering what you stated above, I would have to say that's a good deal. maybe you can find a used one cheaper from a rear end shop. But if that's the case I would like to more, or probably anyone else on this thread for that matter. As for buying a new one check out the prices on the following link:
