once a week

alright so my car has been acting weird. bout 2 weeks ago i went to a store and came ouy got in the car and went to start it and it wouldnt stay running. It would start, run for a second, then die. so i noticed if i pushed the pedal a little it would start and run fine everywhere in the rpms except for idle. the car would just not idle. so i drove it home (driving with two feet)
when i pulled it in the garage and went to go turn it off it idled like nothin was wrong.

well i continued driving the car everyday (It didnt idle 1 other time but after driving for lil while it would idle again) for the most part though it ran quite well. till saturday when it happened again but this time it will not idle. ive driven it for about 20 minutes and no luck it just dies if you let off the pedal.

the car has a new fuel filter, new plugs, wires, rotor, and cap

the only guess i have is either the tps sensor is dead or something is wrong with the injectors.

any input on this would be great
thanks,
Chris

Re: once a week

Not sure exactly what your problem could be, but if the TPS sensor was dead, the car would run like crap in general, not just at idle.

Re: once a week

EGR valve. clogged up w/ carbon. u can replace it or cap it off (wont pass emissions). its the silver/gold looking circle under the plenum, just in front of the fuel pressure regulator.

Re: once a week

Sounds like what my Brother's 2.8L Z24 motor was doing until he replaced his IAC. Idle Air Control??

It would run good for a while and once in a while do the same thing your's is doing. Go away for a while and come back until it just stayed. Replaced what ever controls the idle air mixture and has been running fine since. He could do the two foot thing and keep it going and also it ran great just would not idle.

If that helps so be it if not the best of luck.

When you have a tech question like this you really should include what motor you have. With an 86Z if you have a TPI its your IAC motor. Its the square plug under the throttle body. They cost $50 at my local autozone.

Re: once a week

Carefully clean the heated wire in the Mass Air Sensor. Use an O2 safe Throttle body cleaner.

Blast it a few times, use a Q-Tip a little if needed, blast again and dry. Amazing how that stupid wire is the master of these cars.

Re: once a week

alright sorry not posting the size motor and such but i think i am gonna replace the egr valve and the IAC becuase both of those havent been replaced since i bought the car and it would make sense that the idle air controler would be the problem, at least from the name. thanks though ill get back to you guys if i have problems.
