Exclamation Oil Cooler

i've been thinking about investing in an oil cooler for my 3rd gen. camaro, but i have some questions...
- where does the oil cooler go?
- how hard is it to install?
- if i would take it to a garage, how much would i expect to pay to get it put in?

thanks in advanced for any help

My '87 IROC-Z 305 TPI w/auto came factory with an oil cooler. Directly above the oil filter is a block/base where coolant flows through, cooling the oil as it enters and exits the oil filter. There are two 3/4" coolant hoses connected to this block/base that I can't recall where they go exactly. This is a factory setup though. You can purchase this type of oil cooler from Summit Racing or Jegs I assume. Not sure on pricing. There is another type which has hard lines that flow the oil through a small radiator type cooler, just like aftermarket transmission coolers. This would be a much simplier and cheaper way of installing an oil cooler.

Dunno how much luck you would have finding a factory oil cooler, but I'd suggest going that route to be safe. I don't trust the cheaper oil cooler, seeing that oil can leave deposits in the lines and/or the cooler itself and clog up, which would cause an oil pressure drop. At least with the factory coolant type cooler, there stands a much less likely chance of engine failure.

hmm... do you really think i should just go with a factory oil cooler?

i mean lets say i would find one, how would i know what kind of shape it's in?

wouldn't it just be better to buy a aftermarket oil cooler?

can the oil really leave deposits in the lines and maybe even clog up? because i would assume that would NOT be good...

i don't know what i should do... factory or aftermarket?

what do YOU think? help me out, give me your opinion! Thanks!
