no check engine light

When I start the car no ck. engine light comes on, besides a burn't bulb what else might cause this. This also doesn't allow me to retrieve any codes from the computer using the ck. engine light when following proper directions for retrieval of codes?

You might as well check the bulb first, then move on to more complicated things like checking the wire conection, computer etc.
The bulb should turn on when you start the car - its the only way you'd know the bulb wasn't working.
I could never get my computer to flash trouble codes with a paper clip either, even the mechanic had a hard time hooking up his diagostic.
Basically just check the bulb, its a problem you can fix yourself.

blown ECM fuse would cause it not to light up, but depending on what fuel delivery setup you have, the car shouldn't run.

did the light ever come on?
