it will cost you about $550 for a TPI kit, they are adjustable from 100 to 150 HP, and it takes about 4 to 6 hours of shop hours( you can do it yourself in 2-3 hrs) most shop labor is around $60 hour.

On my '86 305 carb, how large of a shot could I do on a semi-regular basis without damaging the motor? To my knowledge when the motor was rebuilt, she was rebuilt with OEM parts...so no forged pistons/rods for me.

Could she handle 100 shot for any length of time? I drive fairly aggressively, so I'd probably tap the bottle pretty often.

you should learn when to use it, too..

it's only really useful in your highest gear.. IE: if you shoot it off in first gear, it's useless as you'd have to shift pretty much instantly... not to mention you'd probably blow your engine quicker

Ahhh, that's rather useless to me... I don't really care about my quarter mile times... All my races are a number of blocks, not near-miles. Battle of the gears, more or less... Was curious if I could steadily run a 50 shot, just to give me an added edge. Running 4:11's, so it would have to be an automatic engage/disengage (so I don't blow the tranny into the shift) as I climb through the gears too fast.

I want a kit that will be activated by a trigger not by the gas pedal being put all the way down....so which system would that be? or can you make either system do either one

most kits come with a push button and microswitch so you can do either.

zzblackzz 05125 is the part number for the CFI kit.

Thumbs up

I am reading alot of posts here that seem like they have no respect for the "giggle gas" Rest assured if you do not do your homework and go blindly into this route.....you WILL be looking for a new engine. I took all the necessary precautions and I still melted a piston. BE AWARE AND RESPECTFUL of all the knowledge you get. If treated properly, 9 times out of 10 you will have good results. I WAS NUMBER 10 unfortunately

I'd say $1000 is a good start for a proffesional install of a "good" nitrous kit with a few nice safety/fun items to go with it.

So far my 305 has held up well on the spray.

280lbs with the 150hp jets
100lbs with the 100hp jets
60lbs with the 75 shot jets.

440lbs of nitrous total
44 bottles worth

2.45 second drop in 1/4 mile time (SPINNING hard first and second gear with 150 shot)
21MPH gain in trap speed(with 150 shot)

2.25 second drop in ET with the 100 shot(No tirespin)
18MPH gain(also with 100 shot)

1.4 second drop in ET with the 75 shot jets(no tirespin)
8MPH gain with these jets

It's rich therefore it lives Stock base timing at 6 degrees, total timing 33 degrees I believe. 94 octane pump gas. 9 PSI fuel pressure, 1050PSI bottle pressure.

Estimated cost: I don't know but I used to pay $3.50-4.25/lb now I get it for half of that usually. I don't want to know but man is it fun

well im going down to the local shop tomorrow hopefully i come home with some goodies for myself

im gonna need to get some guages and a bottle heater too but i dont think i have enough money for those right now...so im gonna do my best to not start hitting the nitrous until i get them...just to be more safe to my engine....

thanks for the info guys....plus if my engine goes...well hey....i just get to find myself a better one...so its a win win situation...
