Newbie here with questions about building up a motor
Ok I own an 88 s-10 blazer. I want to drop in a 350 sbc. I have to pass emissions so I need to stay fuel injected and it has to run pretty clean. It will be my daily driver and I would like it to have some more power for having some fun on the streets. So I wanted to get a 350 TPI with the harness and computer and put it in. Since it will be a street driven truck and weighs a little more then a camaro I would like a little more torque. What intake would be best to use that will be streatable, give me more torque, and still pass emissions? Or would It be better to get a intake for higher rpm and set the rest of the truck up for more torque? Like put in a higher stall and some 4:10 gears. And what cam and heads should I use? This will be my first engine build up so I dont quite know how to set it up. I need your help and opinions.

The TPI is emissions legal, but isnt great for a high HP 350. A good intake swap for a TPI is the Holley Stealth Ram,but isnt emissions legal (no EGR).
4.10's and TPI=
If your trying to make a good running street truck, try using a set of Vortec heads, and a low .500 lift cam (Vortec heads dont like a lot of cam). Vortec's are great heads for the money.
As for the intake,im not sure what to tell u...other than save every penny and dime u can to stay w/ fuel injection.
hope that helps

If you want torque then stay with the TPI. It will not pull past 4800 rpms without some port work done to the lower intake. Since you are not looking for the same setup as 90% of the people on this board I would go with a smaller 20x-21x cam with 112 or 114 lsa, high 4xx lifts, to give you a more smooth idle and a lower powerband. Other then that I would say a stock 350 would be a nice fun daily driver in a Blazer. Also you will want to run full exhaust so headers might cost a bit of money, but since I have never shopped for them I may be completely off. Good luck.

Thanks guys. I think I will stay with the 3:42 gear I have now. And who make an intake that fits vortech head? And I was thinking of just getting bigger runners and maybe a throttle body. What size should I get? Or should I jut use the stock one?

If you really want to stay with the TPI, Scoggin Dickies makes the Vortec lower manifold. The motors that I have seen with it attached are pretty nice, but the Vortecs, from what I hear, do not like really high lift cams so watch out for that. The throttle body is plenty large for what you are looking for. Only when you get into the 400 rwhp numbers are you going to have to go larger. Larger runners would be a good idea since the stock ones are pretty limiting. Lastly I think that the 3.42s are a pretty good idea with the vehicle you are putting it in. Happy motoring.
