What is the gross or net horsepower on a 5.7 TBI??? found that in a 91 Camaro. Drove that one and its pretty strong and fast for a TBI
Thanks

Unless the motor was swapped there was no 5.7TBI in 91 they only put the TPI on that motor. And you should be looking at 245 hp with that car.

If the engine is a stock 350 its TPI and a Z28 making 245HP and 345 ft. lbs. of TQ.

If I was u I would buy a 96 and up 350 truck motor...

they came with the vortec heads and are TBI from the factory...making 255 Hp

I think 300ft-lbs....but not sure on that.

buy that crate motor, add shorty headers, and a good exhaust....

buy a 2800 stall

and get 3.42 or 3.73 gears....

you should be all over a 13 second car.

kick some LT-1 butt for sure....maybe LS-1

should make about 250-260 to the wheels

figure 20% loss in drive train...

about a 300hp TBI car 325-250ft-lbs torque

other things to get...

later...

dual snokel air cleaner....with K&N
Truck TBI unit
Up grade computer chip
Up grade ignition (MSD COIL and/or 6AL box Good MSD wires)
Edelbrock TBI manifold
TBI spacer.

That would net about 25 hp

with a good set of tires BFG Drag radials....I say 13.50

1996 and later trucks did in fact have 350s and they did have Vortec heads, but they did NOT have TBIs. They all used the Sequential, Central Multiport Fuel Injection.

You guys are kinda talking about what I was looking to do. I am planning on buying a 1995 Chevy 350 outta a Silverado, and put a cam, some headers, and exhaust behind it, with no failure to mention the Vortec fast-burn heads... BUT instead of using the fuel injection, my builder wants to go back through it and carburete it. What I am asking you guys, that won't hurt my performance will it? Just wondering?

Won't hurt your performance if you keep it tuned. Fuel injection is more consistent though. Also you'll have to do some re-wiring in the car for the non-computer distributor, and if you pull the FI computer then your speedo won't work. I went from TBI to carb and love it...if it had been a TPI car I would've kept the injection and just upgraded it. Just a few thoughts.....

I think you want a 96 engine for Vortec heads...

Though it could have been on a few 95 engines

Find out what crate engine it is. If its the GM $1200 special I'd stray, but if its a good Vortec crate then go for it!
