Need a new differential

I had a 3.73 open rear-end in my camaro 84 and completly toasted it. Broke almost all the teeth off the ring gear I had to settle for a 3.2* and don't like it that much. I want another one to put in my 86 camaro but none of the junk yards have anything that short, most are under 3.08. Looking for a high 3-series MAYBE a low 4-series. I don't really want to pay an arm and a leg for one though. I don't mind using the carriage I have now and swapping gears, or getting a used one. Prefer Posi but open is cool too. Any suggestions on where to look or shops in the south east Washington State area?

Also I found a few shops that would build one for me but they want $900+ to do so... is this a common price?

An auburn pro series posi does what you want for under $400 from Jegs, I believe. Specify the 26 spline axel and you can get Richmond gears for under $200. At that point, you can ask for a 4 series carrier and tell them that for the gears.
