Need Mod info on 305 Z
Need Mod info on 305 Z
My cousin just got a 83 z28 with a 305 in it. It has that crossfire injection thing...(which I dont really understand) and flows. He wants to make some mods, but doesnt really know where to start. What do these cars make power wise, and what do they typically run? Is the car even worth modding, or would it be better just to leave it stock, daily drive it, and fix something else up? Thanks!
Yes, you can fix the 305 up to a good 300 hp quite easily. Most people don't like the cross-fire fi system so you simply get a Performer or clone intake and a QJet to replace it.
The KEY to doing up a 305 for a thirdgen is to choose parts that will work equally well on a 350 or 400 ci Chevy, so that when the 305 dies you can just swap the parts and get excellent bang for the buck.
Follow the mods in my sig and you'll be a happy camper. You can choose a cam one step larger if you live in a nice mild climate, or two steps larger if you have a stick. Don't forget the head work, it is the cornerstone of every good street engine

I have a cam I could recommend: Summit Custom Grind, 274/284, matching lifters & timing set, Performer RPM Intake, 600cfm Carb, Mechanical Fuel Pump, and headers would help. If that don't get things rolling, do a gear swap (if they are high gears), and maybe some head work, if you're real dedicated. Good luck!
