My new 3rd Gen

Hello guys, Im new to the forum and I just recently bought an 89 Camaro RS. I have had nothing but FORD's for a while so Im learning about this car now. i got the car for 250 bucks from a friend. The car runs great it just needs some body work and paint. It needs new breaks and wheel bearing but the guy gave them to me with the car. Here are some pics of it:

Re: My new 3rd Gen

It has the 305 TBI and the guy I bought it from says it has the 700R4 tranny in it. The deal I got is cause the guy I got it from is a good friend and a good guy. And I just happened to be in the right place at the right time!

Very good find dude. But one thing; if you are looking to get performance outta that beast, that TBI has got to go.

There is nothing wrong with a TBI small block. They can be set up to run just as fast as a carb, you just have to do the right mods, and get a good custom chip burned for it.

Nice lookin car for only $250 - that's what I paid for my '87 LG4 Camaro (current setup is in the sig)

it takes a LOT of money and time to get a TBI going.

Show me 1 TBI powered SBC in the 11's, or even 12's for that matter...

LOL. I don't know much about modding TBI cars, but for some reason i have a hard time seeing the ability to tune the injectors like you can tune jets, and what not. Fuel injected cars = big bucks to get going fast. Ditch the TBI dude when you get the money and time.

Re: My new 3rd Gen

I don't want to start a big argument, but, yes it is possible to make TBI run just as good(or better) as a carbed set-up on the same motor. But, yes, will cost you a lot more money than just swapping to a carb., but TBI does have it's advantages, considering that it is fuel injection.

I honestly can't name a TBI motor in the 11s or 12s, but I think the problem for a lot of people is that people who own TBI cars are poor (this is not a shot at anyone, but let's face it, RS Camaros are really cheap these days, I know mine was). And, even with the biggest injectors you can get, I think there are inherent problems that make it hard for TBIs to support more than 500 HP.

But, lastly, just FYI, the problem with TBI is not it's fuel delivery system, it's in the super-low performance heads, cam, and motors that GM decided to put TBI on.

But, just like any topic on the internet, there's always going to be plenty of arguing from people on both sides of the topic, so let's just argee to disagree, please?

Anyway, nice buy!
