LOL, not really, but I just for the first time since I bought it last spring looked to see what rear end gear ratio it had. Turns out it's the lame GU2, 2:73's. BAH! At least it is a limited slip G80. Oh well. To boot, it now has a flat left front tire from sitting 3 weeks and not enough gas to start back up since my dumba$$ started it once last week and let it run while on empty. Now I'm gonna have to go get gas in a can, go in my garage and start up the air compressor and put air back in the tire in the sub zero cold. Grr....

 

Since last Spring everything with the car was fine, now since you found out its a 2:73 it lame now.

 

The last time I ran out of gas in my now sold 89 RS 305 TBI, I could never get it to start again. If I primed the TB it would start for a few seconds and die. I had to replace the Fuel Pump which was only about a year old.

Ya I would be pissed if I found out my car has 2:73's too; but at the same time I would be happy to know that even though that car is still ballsier than your other 305, all it takes is a simple rear-gear swap (to 342's) and it would be even quicker

 

I went to 3.73s from 2.73s, that was very fun to drive, lol

And my fuel pump will be fine, It's a brand new AC delco I put in just 3 months ago.

 

so did I, but at the same time i went from 245 horse to about 375 and 50 more foot lbs than what i had before...i guess "^Oh I'm sure it was noticeably funner to drive" would be an understatement.

its amazing how big of a difference gear swaps can make...my 1st gear is rediculously short, but oh so fun

from stories i've heard its not good to run a tank dry with an electric fuel pump because it lets it free flow too much or something. Just what i heard tho, and it makes sense because if it has no resistance, its going to speed up a helluva lot quicker than it should. But i'm hopin you don't have any problems...workin on cold cars suck! not sure where you are, but i worked on mine today in 30 degree weather, feels real good when you whack your frozen hand with an even colder wrench..

But you also upped your hp before you swapped gears so it's hard to tell if it was the gears that really helped you or not Klumb

yea its hard to tell in 2nd and 3rd, but in 1st i definately can tell. Just by how short of a gear it is. I mean the engine is up to 6 grand before you know it. very fun tho, pull up next to somebody doing like 10mph, sittin right below the power curve, and hit the gas, and once they see that front end lunge, and the a*s end sqaut, they know your not messing around

Running a car on empty hurts the fuel pump because the fuel is what keeps the pump cool and we all know how much electric motors like to stay cool. If the pump is old, doing this once could fry it out.

Oh yeah, I'm glad I live in Florida where the low tonight is like 47.
