My 89 iroc has a hot starting problem?

I have a 1989 Iroc-z. It is has the 350 tpi. Last summer i was driving the car and shut it off. The engine temp was the same as it usualy is. When i went to restart the car, it wold not start. The only way that the car starts after being hot is if i jump start it. Has anyone had this problem before? Thanks for reading ramhead97

Yes I have. It was with a new '85 305 TPI IROC. The warranty replaced the computer in the car 3 times in 8 months for my older brother. It would run great when it was cold. When the car got warm it would always stall out at a light. Just when you would give it a little gas. We'd have to let it cool down and then hurry to the dealership. I would have the computer looked at.

Its a common problem with Chevy engines, especially with headers. The starter solenoid is on the starter, which is right next to the hot exhaust. When things get hot, their resistance goes up, which means less voltage to energize the starter. The voltage has to go from the battery, thru the steering column, and back to the starter.
The fix is to get a relay and install it between the starter and the battery. The key switch will energize the relay, which will then energize the starter. That provides the full 12v from the battery to the starter. I did this a few years ago, and I havent had a problem since.

but it's dying... that's loss of spark, or the computer killing it because it thinks you're overheating or something, hot starting is generally a problem with headers though, like ^he^ said. but i'd look at ignition and alternator charging.

curious, what's the temp gauge reading, and what do your spark plugs look like?
