Most Potential?

My 4 gen is wrecked and insurance is too much to get a new one. Im leaning towards an older one to save on insurance. I want fast (of course) and I was leaning towards the 87 i-roc 5.7. How are those cars as far as being modified and driven daily. I want a fast car that I can really rely on. What are your preferences and recomendations.

i've got an 87' 350 and i really can't complain alot...other than it's running rich right now and the gas milage isn't very good in it...other than that, it's a good car...it's my daily driver...but if i could have another one, i'd get a 91 or so z28...they seem to be the most prefered right now

just out of curiosity, how did you wreck your 4th gen? wan't speeding was is??? just asking, since you mentioned 'fast' as a quality your looking for...i'd look and see if it's dependable first, then look for other qualities...no use pouring money into a car that's gonna fall off the frame in a year or two

in 1992, they welded and glued (aerospace adhesive) the chassis together. Those are the "best" bodies to get (technically) and it seems that there were more 4 wheel disk cars in the later years. But any of the 350 cars are "a good start". A T-56 swap makes them even more fun!

Haha. No no speeding. I was going 5mph and was hit by a car going 40mph. But this is california, rates still go up. I can afford about a $2000 car that requires cheap insurance until I have more time to save up more money. I have seen a lot of cars on autofinder.com within my range.

You want the 86 LG4 like I have.

It has the most "potiential" cause it is at the bottom of the performance ladder.

I know you said to keep it in the 80's, but a 1991 or 1992 camaro would be around the same price to buy and cheaper on insurance. my 1989 camaro rs with a V6 was more on insurance than my 1992 camaro z28 with a 5.0. the 1990-1992 all came with airbags. I say go with a 1991-1992 z28 because i like the updated ground effects + the wing. good luck

mines a '92 and it doesnt have airbags, its not a z28 either. but just to correct your statement, not all 90-92s came with airbags. just maybe the lucky few...

From that link:

"Highlights

Introduced in this form way back in 1982, the popular Camaro came in both hatchback coupe and convertible form--the latter added during '87. Base and performance-oriented IROC-Z editions were on sale in 1990. By 1990, all Camaros had a driver-side airbag. New standard equipment included a tilt steering wheel, tinted glass, intermittent wipers, and halogen headlamps. The high-performance IROC-Z convertible gained a standard limited-slip differential and new 16-inch alloy wheels, but those items were optional on the IROC-Z coupe. The '90 dashboard flaunted new yellow-gauge graphics, further enhancing the car's assertive nature."

It sounds like yours was wrecked and they pulled the airbag wheel and changed it. My guess.
