Manual tranny swap

How easy will a manual 5 speed from a 2.8 multi port 89 firebird bolt up to a 87 iroc 350? What steps are needed?

LoL based on that question you probably dont have the skills necessary to do an auto to manual swap. Because if you knew your car stuff at all you would know not only does that tranny not bolt up to a v8, youd probably blow it up at idle.

Re: Manual tranny swap

What is the point of having a message board if people like yourself think you are almighty and dont want to help someone out? I also find your assumption very funny. I am excellent at working on cars, and i didnt know weather or not it would bolt up, or work for well for that matter. I have heard that all of the tranies on the f-body's interchanged. By the way i dont know if it would blow it up, but i do know that GM only put manuals in the irocs for one year, and they were on special order. the problem they had was that the trany was blowing up on them. Thank you for insulting my car knowledge and personal skills, i hope that next time you are interested in something and would like to inquire more knowledge about it your are insulted.

Re: Manual tranny swap

GM never put a manual into the L98. Lots of people tell stories of them building like 53 cars or something but for all intensive purposes its not true.

The t-5 transmission in the 305 cars came in two different models. The normal t-5 through the first half of the third gens. And then i believe around 88 everything afterwards was a World Class (WC) t-5, but those are only even considered safe to a little over 300 ft lbs, where the stock l98 makes 400.

Ive heard of people having 12 second cars with WC t-5's but realistically the only way thats going to hold is if you baby the hell out of it.

Your two easiest manual options are going with a used t-56 6 speed out of the Lt1 camaros (93-97) or buying the aftermarket tremec TKO 600. Check a post up right now by 85_305 i put a bunch of info on both in there. best of luck to you

Hi...all you will need is the bellhousing that fits the 350 motor. The tranny will connect perfectly.

i thought there was something other then the bellhousing that made it so that the v6 trans wouldnt bolt up. Regardless it wont hold for 5 minutes behind a 350 so no point in bothering. Even the WC-t5 is a bit of a gamble, it would run for a while, but eventually your tires would grip hard on a launch and goodbye trans

doesnt the input shaft have a different number of splines or something? i know there is something rather important like that that makes a V6 trans impossible to use in a V8
