does anyone know if mail slot tail pipes like the ones on the 93-02 z 28's came as an opton on any third gen?? so far i have only seen one other third gen with these besides mine. i think they are pretty cool looking. do any of you have them??if so got pix??
Thanx!!!!!
Thanx!!!!!
no they were not a option on the 3rd gens(82-92) just on the 4th gens but i have to admit they do look cool and you can find chrome ones on ebay i thought about getting a pair and putting them on my flowmaster american thunder 3" dual exhaust but i can only find them for 2.5" pipes not 3"
Exhaust tips on a third gen were never an option, any year, any variant.
If you'd like to see a pic of fourth gen Z28 tips on a third gen, click on "SC Z!!" in my sig, then on Exhaust. Scroll all the way down.

willie, can i just say that your car(sc z) is one of the nicest ive seen(especially the rear view). Like i said my iroc has the latter z 28 tail pipes as well but they are aging. that said where did you purchase yours??
Mine are original GM, purchased from the local Chevy parts department. That's because at that time, about four years ago, I could not locate a used pair (too new, I suppose). I then had them chrome plated.

Yea the same kind of tips came with my car but they are not chrome plated. i want 2 keep these same tips but they are 2.5" and im gettin 3in american thunder catback. they look great on my car so ima have 2 hunt down 3in ones chrome plated i think they will look really nice
did you just weld them on or were they too short? what was the process of that?
My tailpipes were made to the correct length to either clamp on the tips (yes, they come with clamps), or to weld on. I had mine welded on.

I like your dual exhaust set-up thats the nicest Ive seen does it keep it quiet enought to daily drive legally?
Thanks. It is the only true dual setup on a third gen that I know of that follows stock routing. To answer your question, the exhaust is loud. That's expected considering these are a pair of chambered straight-through mufflers. Have I ever been pulled over for noise? Never. Hopefully, this answers the question.

how do you like your chambered exhuast?
Love it. Proud of it too, considering no one else has one like it.
did you notice a difference in the performance?? Good sound?? Better noise???Thanx
I have yet to run it at the track to know how much of a gain (if any) I get from the exhaust. I doubt I'll ever find out because I've made other modifications since my last run at the track.
The sound is awesome. I have one sound clip of it. It can be found at:

whenever i start my car and rev the engine the exhuast throws out tiny rusty metal chips. I think it is because the car hasnt been started in a whileand the problem is starting to go away but i think they are coming from the exuast tips themselves. just curious to see if any others will the mail slots has had this problem.Thanx
