i took my car into my auto mechanics class to run the Snap-On scan tool on it just to see what it reads b/c i dont have a bulb in the SES light...o darn neway,the only code i got was somethin about a MAF burnoff relay (i think,this was 3 months ago and kept forgetting to post). whats the deal? shop teacher said it was normal on cars like mine and it happends to alot of them. do i need to replace this right away,is it robing me of power or nething? thanks for any help.

 

it burns all the crap off your maf sensor wire when the car gets shut off it makes it last longer

 

Its a cheap part (about $15.00) located on the firewall. Also replace the SES light bulb.

how is it ignorance? i dont want that SOB commin on all the time and and having to look at it. ill just take it to shop class and run the scan tool on it.

 

If that "SOB" light is comming on all the time you have more problems then you care to admit to yourself, now thats Ignorance

i doesnt come on or i wouldnt hope it would anyway. but w/ my luck,if i put a bulb in it,the SOB WOULD come on all the time.

 

THEN FIX THE CAR RIGHT. Maybe you'll get lucky and the car will burn a piston cause it was running lean and you didn't have an SES bulb in it to tell you something was wrong.

 

I may be wrong I believe that the check engine light bulb completes some sort of circuit. Your car maybe running in limp home mode. I know this was true in a 2nd gen I had with a CC carb. Replaced the bulb and the car ran great. My boss at the time told me that the bulb completes a circuit, that was a long time ago though. I am not sure if that appiles to the 3rd gen computer system or not.

 

It does not complete a circuit, but you should have one if you have a computer. If you are running lean, or if you are running rich. My old car started smelling bad, and about 2 days later threw the O2 sensor code. New sensor, and you could smell the difference. At $3.00 a gallon, I will take a light saying "hey, sometin ain't right here!".
