LT1 guy needs help with buddies TPI setup
Helping a friend put together his TPI and there are somethings i just don't know.
First off we are deleting his A/C and all smog equipment. I don't know how to setup his pulley system without reinstalling the smog equipment and deleting the A/C.
Also he wants to put the LT1 intake onto his engine but i don't know all what he needs to do to make that happen. I looked at LT1intake.com and his setup is great but its $400 for the intake to be modded and another $100 for the fuel lines and another $65 for the thermostat housing. So the deal really isn't that great. Is there another way to put a better intake then stock?

Re: LT1 guy needs help with buddies TPI setup
I would suggest a Holley Stealth ram but those run about the same as a converted LT1 intake. Get a set of used aftermarket runners off of ebay(or where ever) and port the plenum and the base.
check out thirdgen.org for tons of info on TPI motors.

Re: LT1 guy needs help with buddies TPI setup
There is a guy over on Thirgen.org who did both A/C and smog delete without buying the 1-LE A/C delete pulley that is normally necessary to do this. I think he posted in the TPI section about that over there.
The Reader's Digest version: He removed both and installed a parts store idler pulley of the same diameter on the stock tensioner arm but a ribbed style one (to lay the inside face of the serp. belt on) and then used a modified belt routing with a different length belt. It looked pretty slick and claimed it worked jsut fine.
If you just want to delete the smog pump you just need a 96.5" belt and a modified belt routing (covered in a tech article on that website).
