LS1 guys quick question
LS1 guys quick question
i have a 91 z28 vert that was converted to speed density with the dash, wiring and all with a 145 setup out of a 5.7 car. what all would i need in the wiring department to make a 01 ss 4l60e drivetrain and cpu work?
would it be possible to make the guages work like they do? apologize with the repeat questions if it is but with thirdgen down it's rather hard to look up ls1 swap details.
thanks.

Re: LS1 guys quick question
so there is nothing different then a standard swap? anyone recommend one adapter over another?
would the harness from howell engineering be better then using an adapter?

Re: LS1 guys quick question
oh no, yes i mean the complete setup. i would like to use the original 145 guage cluster just want to know what adapter i should use or just pick up the howell harness which overrides it all.
Re: LS1 guys quick question
send your factory harness to Hawks, they do the modifications to it that make the LS1 swap a plug and play deal. It's like $650 to do it and all of your gauges will work. You'll only need an interface box for the tach. The LS1 tach uses a 4cyl signal to operate while the thirdgen tach uses a v8 signal (which makes sense)

Thats $650 that will be down the drain, the diagrams and a little solder / heat shrink would be a far better idea.

Not sure how much your time is worth, but when I did the LS1 swap on one of my customers cars he said he'd rather pay for the $650 conversion than pay me $80/hour for me to splice it in.
Kanidied: There's no doubt in my mind that it can be done at home like he said, but if you're in a hurry it's easier to send it out and have someone do it that's done it before.

Actually, welcome to thirdgenparts.com
we normally do used 3rd / 4th gen parts, and im sure jeff knows we've been around for a while. I've been doing swaps in thirdgens since I was 16, in the past I really didnt have the time to be able to put into doing this for people, and the one harness I did for someone took a lot longer than it should have due to work bouncing me around and changing my schedule quite a bit, though he was very happy when he received his plug in 92 Camaro LT1 harness. For now i've got a few customers swaps im working on, along with a replacement for the LT1 T56 thirdgen i traded for my heritage, so unless jeff wants to drop it off here in tampa for me to do the engine install, I probably wont be fortunate enough to get his business. But some others may have it a bit easier in the future
