Loud Ticking coming from Harmonic Balanceor.

I have a very loud and annoying ticking sound coming form the harmonic balenceor I can spray the back of it w/ WD-40 and the sound immediately goes away, and then comes back the very next day. Any suggestions. im puzzled on this one.

Assumint the bolt is tight, it might be a warning that the balancer is going south. When I get a new balancer, I put a mark on it so that when it slips, I can see it. It is basically a metal band over a bunch of rubber on a wheel. I line it up so the outer band and the inner wheel have a mark. When the band moves off the mark on the wheel, I know it is bad.

i had a harmonic balancer go on my old jeep. it was making this sort of ticking/squeaking noise and i noticed it was just brushing up agains the engine. i caught it in time before any damage was done, but i when i sprayed oil it went away for a little while like yours.

Being over the net, I would suggest you get a professional do diagnose and confirm it before you get a new balancer. If it comes out on the road and hits the radiator, well......

How would I perform the diagnosis myself? Also, how much does a balanecor costs? Would you get one at a pick-a-part or definately go new?

You could get a GM one pretty cheaply. I wouldn't get a used one. Since the fancy ones are around $300 I would think that you could get a decent one for under $200.
