leaking rear end seal
leaking rear end seal
looks like my rear is leaking fluid on my exhuast pipe how do i change that rear seal thats leaking is it a big job. also someone told me ill never leak enough fluid to burn out my gears. is this true
thats funny i JUST dealt with that EXACT problem and i asked the same questions you did but diddnt get much in the answers department
i can tell you one thing im glad i tried before and went and did the whole gasket seal change was climb under and tighten up all the blots that i could actually get to. i was able to get to the two biggies in the front and the rear. after doing that i went from having a slow consistent leak on the y-pipe and drips from other places to going a whole week so far without any drops hitting the floor although i can see one starting to form. i dont know for sure if it is just because i lost enough for it to be below the seal line or if it actually did the trick but it seems that it worked. you can slide under without even jacking up the car too (tight but can be done) go at an angle from the front between the tire and that little black pebble difflector.
ps did your car make smoke that came up through the engine compartment when you stopped as a resultof the hot pipe burnin oil.

You mean the pinion seal? Pretty simple actually. Just remove the driveshaft - should only be 4 7/16" bolts. Then remove pinion nut - 1" or 1 1/8" - I can't remember which. Put the nut back on just a thread or two. Then hammer off the pinion yoke - don't be afraid, smack that sucker if you have to. Then using a screwdriver and a hammer slowly tap around the edge of the old seal until it pops out. Install the new seal by slowly and lightly tapping around the seal edge until it fully seats. Be patient as it may take some patience to start to seat the seal. Reassembly is pretty straightforward. Torque on the pinion nut can be found in any Haynes/Chiltons manual or whatever. Or you can just tighten the nut by feel. You want to tighten it so there is no slop in the yoke but not so tight that the rear won't turn. Top off fluid level.
camaroz28coupe are you talking about oil or differtial fluid. and marc i looked but its like a puzzle to me so i decided to bring it to the local gas station because my passanger side wheel cylinder let go also. i topped it off this morning it took like a quater then oozed out the plug hole then i put the plug back in and it was dripping out th sealed plug. so i went to go get silicone and when i came back i put more in this time it took half the can where did it all go in 30mins it did not leak on my garage floor or is it just leveling out from the axel bieng tilted. any ideas are appreciated
