L98 + super t-10?
I have access to a freshly rebuilt super t-10 4 speed and was wondering what i would be getting my self into if i wanted to put this into my car (mind you i have already weighed out all the pros and cons im talking more about what im getting into trying to install it).
I have the 700-R4 in now so id have to do a full auto-manual swap anyways. What major problems could i run into? The guy im getting it from is pretty certain that the bellhousing will bolt up fine to my engine and that all i would need is the flywheel off of a t-5 car.
I am aware that i would also need a new driveshaft.

A 3rd gen has a torque arm rear suspension, which mounts to the transmission housing. The transmission housing in a 3rd gen has a mounting boss specifically for this purpose. Unless you get the rare ST-10 off a 1982 Z-28 or Trans Am (the only year for this transmission in a 3rd gen) you will have a problem mounting your torque arm. Having owned an '82 Z with this transmission - and having blown it up (it was a *very* expensive proposition to get another for this car) behind the stock 145HP 305 engine, I'd advise against such a swap. Unlike a later T-5 with a hydraulic clutch, the ST-10 is not a lot of fun to drive in traffic, doesn't really shift very smooth at all, and put behind an engine with some decent torque like an L-98, you'll most likely grenade it at some point. I also seem to recall breaking 2 or 3 tranny mounts as well. It's not that it is a bad transmission, it just seems to me in the 3rd gen body the newer transmissions are better suited for it.
My advice is you either go to a T56 6-speed, or leave the 700 auto in there. An ST-10 is a step backwards, imho.

Re: L98 + super t-10?
thanks some people on tgo pointed out some other problems too.
The reason i wanted to is my trans is shot and i can get the whole assembly and clutch for 1000 canadian and its all freshly rebuilt/brand new plus i kind of liked the idea of a 4 speed.
I think ill just save a bit more and find my self a good used t-56
