jump starting

Well im a dumbass and of course the last time i use my car before i leave for 3 days i leave the dome light on and come back to a dead battery. Tried to use the family car (dodge durango 4.7 V8) and it didnt even come close to being able to jump start it. Anyone have any luck jumping these cars? the starter just would kind of make one click and not have enough power to turn over it borderlined on funny except i was going to meet someone. What a nightmare now ive pulled off the wires so i can charge the battery and when i pull em off i find the negative terminal is leaking?!?!? The worst part is its a 200 dollar battery the cell battery things forget what the technical term is and the thing was purchased at the beginning of the summer....oh well hopefully i can find the receipt.

You will need a new battery at the least. Just buy a A/C delco one for $80 and leave the $200 Cell what you call it to the people that know what they are used for. ( may not be designed for jump starting, who knows.) Hard lesson that price is not everthing.

nah these batteries are a higher quality battery for sure. I couldnt jump start it because i dont think the other cars battery was strong enough. The leaking part has just got to be a defect.

Are you talking about dry cell batteries? If you are we had a HUGE problem with them at work. I work on Police cars and we started putting in the dry cell batteries because we were told they were better. After a couple months we started having problems. Once the cars battery got too low and you had to jump start it was all over. We removed the batteries and put them on a charger till they were fully charged and we would load test them, almost every single one would fail one they were drained. At this point we were putting batteries in cars every couple months. We went back to the regular batteries and haven't had many problems at all.

Yea! Such higher quality ( "just got a defect") that it failed on you when you needed it.

allright 87DJP2001 i understand and might even possibly agree with what your saying but its not based on anything just your random opinion so its not helping much.

Tang i cant figure out if it is or not. Its listed on a page right beside a bunch of dry cell batteries but its listed as an OPTIMA SPIRACELL BATTERY.

heres the info: the optima bettery fraturing the dual post 800CCA-104 minutes reserve, has over 20 patents the most important one being the spiracell design. Each cell is wrapped with a pure lead frid in an absorbent glass mat which holds the acid. The design ads 50% more surface area to each cell. The optima batterycan handle any environment and continues to work even when shot with a gun!
The optima battery has the following features:
Spiracell design protects it from heat and vibration
if battery is damaged it will not leak and continue to work
longer shelf life
delivers more dependable starts
non non hazardous and can be shipped by air
zero maintenance completly sealed
high starting capacity

all that being said and its leaking out of the negative terminal?!?!? Can anyone tell me anything about that battery? its PN 8004-003 its only 105 dollars on their site but i paid for one in canada which is why it cost me close to 2 bills

You Posted your problem and I just made a comment on it and did not mean to be to critical of your situation. But why buy such a battery for your car????? The spec's are not that great for the climate in Canada. My opinion.

Couple reasons....
expected a longer life then out of a normal battery.
Safety its supposed to be leak proof/works when shot etc.
Supposed to work better and charge easier
I think theres one or two other sales pitches as to why its better but i forget

It wasnt even you being critical its just that saying well i dont think thats good for you doesnt help me in any way. What was it about the "specs" that makes it no good for canada mind you my car is only driven during the summer anyways. Also does anyone know anything about the optima "spiracell" batteries or have any experience with them?

Just go get a regualar battery. Was the Durango running when you tried to jumpstart it? Because the strength of the battery doesn't mean much, the Durango's alternator is what is jumping you. I would be highly dissapointed with any battery that cost that much and performed that poorly.

Battery Wars.....

I've heard of these batteries a lot of coustom car builders use them, because of the seal. supposedly they can be installed upside down. Either way you decide to go have you charging system checked out to make sure that not only are you putting out enough amps to keep the battery charged ,but also to make sure it's not OVER charging which can kill a battery in minutes.

Yeah ive seen this exact same battery in a lot of cars at car shows it seems to be pretty popular but this one messed up for some reason.....i dont think its the charging system i did leave the interior light on for like 3 days without the car running so its not surprizing it ran out of juice i would have just recharged it and been good to go but the things leaking...oh well what can you do.

Draining the battery won't make it leak, overcharging can, that is why I mentioned having you system checked. Then you will have the ammunition to fight with when you ask for a refund,or new battery under your warranty, and if they check it they can't say it was the systems fault, right?
