I've decided to take the plunge guys!
Yeah my car feels fast as hell, I have stayed with a heavily modded LT1 at the track (shift kit, gears, convertor, headers, catback, cutout, all free mods etc without cracking the motor open)... Ran .1 slower than he did. But it just doesn't seem as fast as I had originally planned on the "new" motor, so I decided today that I WILL be getting a set of aluminum heads that FLOW and also the Holley Stealth Ram. This combo should net me a low 13 second pass NA pretty easily. This year I pulled off a 13.7 on bald street tires so I bet with some Nitto's and a little more into the motor I should click off a 13.2 or lower. A half second should be pretty easy to gain considering that I picked up 1.1 seconds since last year on roughly $2000. Whaddya think, $1500 to gain another .5? I told myself that I was gonna leave the motor alone for a LONG while but I decided that its not what I wanted... and I now have the means to make it what I wanted. The motor is gonna be cracked open AGAIN!
Just thought that I'd tell ya guys to watch for updates coming next spring.

Plan properly and you can see 11 second timeslips instead of 13s. There's a couple guys on thirdgen.org with AFRs and a stealth ram putting nearly 400hp to the ground. Even if you buy lesser quality aluminum heads, I don't see why you can't see mid 12 second timeslips with the right combo.
I'd definately do some reading on thirdgen.org to see what these guys are doing. I plan on following a similar path after the rest of my drivetrain is capable of handling it.

I see your point Jim. I am an avid reader over there. I just don't post much..
I know my car had a little more in her this year as my O2 readings were WAYY high at WOT, remember leaner is meaner
, so I prolly had at least a few tenths in her. However the heads are really limiting me right now. They only flow 195cfm and that confounded TPI on top of them flows just as bad.... in reality it flows worse because the LT1 guys flow 195cfm with their heads and can see 350hp on untouched heads... so the TPI is definitely the problem.
I am debating taking out a loan.
What to do... what to do?

A StealthRam alone might get you that .5 second drop. AFR 190's or 195's, along with your cam and a SuperRam, your 3.73'/converter and some Et Streets will get you furthur in the 12's than you wish
As far as computer changes, do you know if there is any benefit of ditching the MAF setup at that power level? Use a Speed Density setup instead and see if that little MAF is too restrictive? Never thought about it a lot i guess. 355 cubes at 6500 RPM sucking through that little meter seems like a bad idea, aye? later ****!

AFR should setup their heads with pretty good springs also i would think, which will help a lot, and possibly you can do 1.6 Roller Rockers too for some more lift? I have a set of GMPP 1.6 Rolelr rockers if ya want em for a reasonable fee. They are a buddies that he left behind when he moved. He said "try to get $100 for em, lol"! You'd need guideplates on th heads though. see ya
I don't know about that. Everybody on thirdgen.org complains that the AFR springs are junk. A lot of guys are getting valve float between 6k & 6,500 rpm. Most reccomend getting the heads without the springs.
As for the MAF... the physical diameter of the MAF isn't the problem. The problem is the ECM's resolution. The ECM can only compute up to 255g/s of airflow. Now when you convert that into CFM, *Now is a good time to hide the women and kids*, you get... about 450cfm.
The MAF is usually good until around 300RWHP, after that it's time for a speed density or DFI swap.

Good info, Jim!
I never hear stuff about AFR heads besides power numbers and flow numbers, a decent cam kit with proper springs would be perfect for some bare heads.
I'm sure I read that MAF info 100 times or more but that's stuff that I never remember, thanks! I'm currently funding a DFI Gen 7.0 purchase for myself which SUCKS big time...Wideband rules but man, buying it is like a golf club to the jewels!
Brad ****,
With all this high rpm intake/head stuff you will want a higher stall converter for sure. I know someone who's doin' a Vigilante 4200:metal Look for him at the track next year getting booted cause his cage isn't legal
Psssst!!

Ohhh yeah guys,
Denny... Now those rockers you are talking about are non-self aligning. But you want how much for them? I may be sending you a check AGAIN brotha.
About the MAF... so far I have only gotten to 195 grams/sec at WOT right around 5600 rpm where it seems to "port stall". The way I figure it, if my heads supposedly flow 195cfm... I could prolly get a box stock set of AFR's that flow what 240? and I should be fine.... but the guys over on thirdgen.org are making the MAF->SD swap a lot easier. I may be doing that too. For now though, I am gathering the funds for the new topend.
I'm doin it! Wohoo! I'm stoked because the car is gonna be what I wanted it to be this year.

The 195 AFR heads are the ticket. You have to do the hydra rev kit when going above 6000 RPM so you don't get valve float. I would throw a Mini Ram on top and your good for 12.5 no sweat. You will need a vig 3000 stall converter to stay in the power band. Throw a 150 shot on that and your looking at very low 11.
We have to get our cars done this winter so we can kick some tail on all the 4th gens this summer. We have to get together with Denny, Jeff, Mike, Duke, Scott and Maniacc and take some revenge on all our buds with the 4th gens. We shouldn't tell them about the mods we are doing and shock then come spring. I am going to be in the 11 come spring or blow it up trying. If I do I will just rebuild bigger and better.
I hope everyone has a great holiday season and gets lots of toys for the rides for christmas.

Jeff, So far I have put around $3000 into the car plus the cost of buying it. This doesn't include tires or anything because those are expendible items. Now if I were to have bought a car with a nice motor in it..... I would have spent a lot less on it. I have basically been taking out severely worn out parts and replacing them with hi-po stuff when I shouldn't have had to yet. Ohh, by the way, part of the $3000 is from when I had to foot part of the bill from when that jackass smashed into the back of my car. He did $4200 in damage to my car and I had to pay $700+ for a rearend/gear/posi job. I know that sounds like I put somthing in there that doesn't belong but believe me I bought those gears, posi, AND the new rearend because that jackass bent my damn 9-bolt he hit my car so hard.
1.8 60's on bald street tires? I sure did. I have a number of people that could vouch for me. I actually ran against TrouserSnake on that run. He ran a 13.6 @ 105 and I ran a 13.7 @ 99. I literally have less than an 1/8th inch of tread on those tires. Stanton HOOKS HARD
Chris, the only reason that I am not going with the miniram (unless I have been mis-informed up to this point) is that it costs so damn much money. The Holley Stealth Ram costs $450 with the fuel rails included. The MiniRam is in the neighborhood of $2000+ right? Thats more than I can foot these days. I can buy a Stealth Ram easily and I have already started saving for it... Hell I could order it right now.
Anyway, I am finally taking the dang factory heads and tuned port infection manifold off. Thats the reason for the topic... Taking the plunge. There's no turning back after this
Still, I'd like to have a higher end discussion about internal combustion engine theory. I am getting bored with all these "which cat-back is best?" posts. Advanced Tech doesn't cater much to us 3rd genners. So we have to do it here. If you guys have any thoughts about my motor combo or advice feel free to tell me. Please!
