Its Alive!!!!!
Its Alive!!!!!
After successfully replacing the timing chain on my 91 RS, I did some other things like new wires, plugs, painted valve covers and pulleys, and some other small things. Today I finally put the finishing touches on everything and crossed my fingers as I put the key in the ignition, and WOW!!!! She started on the first turn of the key. Runs like a champ, I was obviously delighted. My most indept mechanical challenge so far and a success. Thanks to all of you who helped me, I really appreciated it.

That's a good feeling, after doing some work on your car, turning the key and hear it roar to life. I noticed in your profile, you're retired military. Let me say thank you for your service and may you and yours have a Merry Christmas and Happy Holiday.
Re: Its Alive!!!!!
Well as I known before, with every successful venture there is another challenge. Today I let the RS run to check to see if everything was sealed properly and no leaks (which there wasn't) the engine ran fine for about five minutes or so, then it began to slowly loose power (run slower and slower) til it stopped. So I started it again and it ran for the first 30 seconds and quit, after that when I tried to start it, it would run kind of rough then quit. Takes two or three times for it to start now before it stops. Possibly might be my fuel pump. Any of you guys have any ideas, thought I would ask before I went to my mechanic.
Almost there, but not quite!!!!!

Re: Its Alive!!!!!
My car was doing kinda the samething at one time. I was the fuel pump relay. It wasn't sending enough power to the pump to make I pump at full speed causing it to starve the engine. I change the relay and everything was fine. The fuel pump relay is the square one on the firewall. Goodluck
Re: Its Alive!!!!!
Yeah I was told to try and use some of that additive in gas that helps get rid of water, being that it sat for so long before it was started, possibly may have got some condensation in the tank. We will see what happens.
Re: Its Alive!!!!!
Don't bother with additives. If you suspect water in the tank, get a pump and pump out all of the gas and get new gas.
I would think that the problem does indeed lie in fuel delivery, but I would not suspect water immediately unless you left the gas cap open and it rained or something. Those tanks are pretty well sealed. I would first check fuel pressure. If it turns out fine, then I would check either the injectors or the ECM. If fuel pressure is low, check the FPR hose for gas and if that checks out OK change the fuel filter, fuel pump relay, and fuel pump in that order checking fuel pressure along the way. If fuel pressure is high, suspect either the FPR or a clogged fuel return line.

Re: Its Alive!!!!!
Just had one of my friends over today from work, he is a mechanic checked the RS out and found out that it is getting plenty of gas, the problem is that timing is off, I'll have to reset it when I get a chance. Will keep you posted.

Re: Its Alive!!!!!
Still searching for the cause that my RS will not continue to run after its started. Going to test the fuel pressure and change out the fuel filter, also going to check to see if it is firing correctly. I under the assumption that if some was not right when the new timing chain was installed then, it would not have ran on the initial start up for five minutes, before it lost power and shut off. I'm I correct on that assumption?? Tring to eliminate all the other possibilities.
