Question How to pick an LB9 cam?

I want to know how lift effects HP and Torque
Compare single pattern vs. dual pattern. Low lift vs. high lift. and a mix of both, low intake/high exhaust, mabey using 1.5rockers on one side and 1.6 on the other. Use 204-220 for duration.

Ready? Explain!

For questions like that, I've heard that search engines are occasionally helpful...

Re: How to pick an LB9 cam?

do you have a MAP(90-92) or MAf car(85-89)

MAP cars do not react well at all to cams much different then stock,
because there timing/fuel is based on vacuum and not airflow like MAF

cams tend to effect vacuum alot which really throws the MAP ECM for a loop

MAF cars are better to modify then MAP cars simply cause the ECM uses air flow to deterim fuel and timing, with a bigger cam the ecm reconizes that more air is flowing into the motor,

MAP cars need custom tuned chips to run a cam,

if you go real big MAP or MAF you'll need a custom chip

Re: How to pick an LB9 cam?

I have a MAP LB9. If I decide to do a cam swap, Ill have the car dyno tuned and a custom chip.

So, anyone got input on my queston about lift?

Re: How to pick an LB9 cam?

there is alot of thing you have to consider when buying a cam,

main is what intake,

stock TPI is only good to about 5000rpm for a power range,

putting a 2500-6500 rpm cam is a waste,

when building a performance motor you have to take your whole system in to consideration

look for a cam that makes power under 5500rpm,

not really that knowledgable when it come to all the dual patern single patern and duration

I have a program called desktop dyno its fairly accurate if you put exact cam and head specs in

I know TPI is no good above 5000rpm. I had a desktop dyno CD, but lost it. My friend will burn me another one

Are you planning on keeping the 305 or something? Save money and pick up a used lt1 cam for $10 and a gasket set for $35 and be done. Put the other money towards a more effecient engine.

Dont need a new engine when all I wanna do is spice up my daily driver a bit. Especially when theres only 41K miles on it. If I wanna go fast I hop into my 11sec Camaro

Your definition of spice is much milder than mine then.
