how much nitrous on this engine?

chevy 355

diamond forged pistons

pro sorce bushed rods

stock crank

dart heads

victor jr intake

112 fuel

msd ignition(full ignition)

th 350

411 gear.

i currently have a 175 shot on the car but im worried about the crank and rods holding up. the motor only has 2000 miles on it and has 60 psi oil pressure hot.

can i ask why you forged the everything but the crank and rods? it seems like you put a lot of money into this, why not go the whole way w/ forged stuff?

think about this. stock LT1 internals will hold up to a 200 shot. i think you are safe running a 175 shot.

Re: how much nitrous on this engine?

my cousin builds race motors and just built 2 nitrous ready motors 1 for my bro and another for another cousin,

they got forged pistons, 9.7:1 compression, stock rods with 7/16 ARP rod bolts on cast cranks with 2 bolt mains and he siad not to go over a 150 shot,

the rods and the 2 bolt mains being the weak links,

not sure on the internal of his personal engine but he has 600hp N/A and a 2 stage 250 shot, but says hes going to destroy the stock '69 block,

newer blocks are lighter and have less steel then older blocks and can't take the power the older ones can, keep that in mind

Re: how much nitrous on this engine?

thanks for the replies, i am just gonna go ahead and run the 200 shot on the car and if it blows it blows.

on another note, i have a 4 bolt block from a truck and i just got a 78 gm steel crank so if i could find some good rods then i would just build that and not worrie about it. i would think that it would take the 250 shot

we will see.

Re: how much nitrous on this engine?

Its really too hard to say. The crank will most likely outlive the rods, and while being bushed certainly helps by creating a floating wrist pin. It doesn't give them anymore strength.

Do you happen to know how far down the compression on the piston is? I know its a long shot but that would at least give you an idea if the slug would stand up. The standard is .180-.200 down, and will stand up to a 200hp hit of nitrous provided the rest of the assembly can take the abuse.

Good Luck and let her fly!!

I see your in Garden City as well, taking it to Milan for its exit ceremony.
