How Much to get into the 11's?
How Much to get into the 11's?
Either with my current 305 TBI (DOUBTFUL) or swapping in an L98, what would it take to get my '92 5-Speed RS into the 11's? I want something I can drive everyday on pump gas with decent mileage. Would I be better off with an LT1? Not now, but maybe something for the future...

ya gotta figure to see 11's you ar gonn ahave to do soem serious suspension work, especially if you intend to do it with a stick car. it takes prolly 112-114mph to get 11's with a good launch usually, counting on you still running street gears at least.
to make that kind of mph you are gonna need somewhere on the scale of 425-450 at teh wheels if you do some reasonable weight reduction and you are gonna have to put in a roll bar, so you have to remove enough weight to compensate for that too.
a built 305 can certainly do that, but a 350 will make it a lot easier. if you do the port injection thing just find a ecm and wiring harness. you arent' gonna be able to use any of the stock intake/heads anyway unless you plan to run a power adder. convert a carb to act as a TB and run a converted single plain carb intake and you will save some money and avoid soem of the air flow issues that box style intakes see at higher rpms.
just keep teh chassis in teh front of your midn during the build up. et is about traction and gearing a whole lot more than it is about horse power.

For the rear suspension you are going to need LCA, PHB, STB and frame ties. This will make the body more ridged and plant the rear tires. You will need a 9 inch ford rear end with some 410 gears. Also some DR's or ET streets.
You will need at least 300 RWHP on the motor and 100 shot of N20. That would be at least 400 RWHP. I am going for 11.9 this spring and this is what I have done. Will post when the track opens and let you know how I did. I am in the high 12.9 now on the motor..
