how much can a t-5 handle?

alright, i'm just wondering how much a stock t-5 can handle (i'm assuming thats the tranny that would be an a 90's 3rd gen). I'm aiming for around 350 rwhp when i'm done, so i just wondered if i'd be needing a new tranny.

youre going to get varying opinions on this one but really it all depends on what you plan to do with it....If you want to be nice and careful with it youll never have a problem....if you plan on doing 3k clutch dumps i say youll blow it to smitherines!

350 rwhp is over 400 flywheel horsepower. 2 words come to mind:

Ka and Boom.

The T5 can hold up to moderate power if you're gentle. No speed shifting, and if you're smooth with the clutch. My IROC is in high 13 second range and my T5 is doing just fine, but I've got a WOT bog so bad that it barely chirps 2nd gear, so I'm not sending that shock through it when I shift.

I shift well enough that the whole process is pretty smooth, plus I don't speed shift, so I expect my T5 to do just fine down into the low 13s, but I also realize that it's a time bomb just waiting to go off.

350rwhp is knocking on the mid 12 second 1/4 mile range, and I don't see the T5 liking that for long, if at all.

yall have to remember though...the GM and ford T5's are identical in every way except the first gear ratio (3.35 in stangs 2.95 in f bods..and thats only in a few years) and the case design...the gm version being the weaker of the 2...

there are lx stangs running mid 11's with stock t-5's...AND a few stock GM t-5's going that fast..

but really whats the point?...spendind 4-5 grand on a motor then having to take it easy becasue you dont want your tranny to come apart....id rather beat the **** out of a tranny thatll laugh at everyhitng i throw at it (Tremec TKO comes to mind)...
