Post How many miles before it's too much?

I've been looking for an '87 to '92 camaro iroc or Z28 and most of them have a lot of miles on them. What I mean by a lot is 145,000+. My worry is the transmission more than anything. How long will most of them last? Also, do you think the motor is about ready to crap out? The car I'm trying to sale has 100,000 miles on it and still runs well and I don't want to sale it and get one that I have to repair with the money I don't have. Thanks for any help.

It all depends how the car was driven. I have a 1989 Iroc Z28 1LE with 201k kms but it was driven so nicely for its whole life and it never saw a winter. That being said some things will go regardless of driving style. Just make sure the tranny is good body is good and major engine parts are good so if a fuel pump or something like that goes its not too major.

I have a 85 Camaro with the 305H LG4. I have 248K miles on it. The transmission first went out at around 180K. I don't abuse it but I do drive it kind of hard sometimes.

i purchased my 87 350 iroc-z with 72,000 on it.and i beat that thing so hard!. and the 700r4 took it like a champ!. until i put a beefy 350 in it, and blew it 50miles later. lol. my tranny was stock with the corvette servo.
put the new motor in with 116,000miles on the tranny.. so you figure 40-45,000 miles of beating on it hard. it did good for me. but the 700's are known to suck.(behind big hp numbers)

my 700R4 lasted through 3 engines at around 285k miles it slipped from around 250-285k and then gave out. thats just a perfect reason to put in a t56
