How many driving miles do Nitto 555r's last?

I was going to buy a set and just use them for daily driving, too, as my car only sees ~5,000 miles a year. Go to the track on occasion, but not more than 30 passes a year I'd say. How long do they last under street conditions?

They'll last you well over a year..

Mine have I believe 17 passes?? I counted it up the other day but forget, and are daily driven. They also have over 8000 miles now besides that... Still have a good 1/3rd of life left.

Cheers,

5-15K Burnouts pending...

This current set(315/35/17) have 1 year on them now. 5K Miles and about 7 track visits, 35 passes roughly, each pass included a 5-7 second VERY SMOKEY burnout. Right now I am at 50% tread depth. I have done a few dry burnouts on blacktop also which EATS a tire up like crazy and I don't reccomend at all. I wasted about 1/8" of tread easily on one particular blacktop burnout. When your tire starts to eat thru the blacktop, the rocks underneath the smooth surface start shredding your tires(seriously)... lesson learned. They're awesome tires. Cheap, quiet, decent handling(I auto-x on them also and do very well), reliable 100% so far. Goodluck!

Chuck, Will these be for the 17X9 rims on your car? If so, you'll need to decide if you want the overly skinny 275/40/17 or the just a bit too wide 315/35/17. You've seen my car, it has 17X9.5" rims out back with 315/35/17's. Nitto sizes their tire different from any other tire company I've ever seen. Their 275/40/17 is not any wider than a stock 245mm tire, and if I had to guess, their 315mm tire like I have are equal to a 295mm tire from any other company.

Yea, these will be going on a 17x9 rim. I dont want it to look goofy with a 275 up front that's larger than the 275 out back, so I guess I go with the 315s? Should i anticipate any problems?

I got 14000 miles out of my first pair of 275/40r17. That's only with 2 passes down the track, and LOTS of spirited driving. I take turns hard, and like to smoke the tires through 2nd gear often just for the hell of it - point is they wear well.

2 things you NEED to be aware of:

1. Like AutoRoc stated, the 275/40r17 are skinny for their size. They are smaller than the 275/40r17 Kuhmos I run up front. I was hesistant to get the 315s as I only have 17x9 wheels, but after seeing them on a local WS6, they look great. And I plan on getting them as soon as my current tires weat out. Talking to the guy revealed he noticed a very slight difference in rear end stability around high speed turns. No big deal.

2. Do not run anything over 28 psi. More than that and they will run bald in the center very prematurely. Most people recommend 26 psi COLD.

Problems? Spilled drinks, scared passengers, and more attention from the cops

Wet traction is excellent for a shallow tread performance tire. MUCH better than the BFGs.

That's what I'm sayin man! Why would you wanna do that? it would look very not right. Good thing I'm all-knowing, aye? ok maybe not. Problems? Nothing a small hammer can't fix. On seriously hard turns, I could get my 315's to rub inside the wheel well towards the front of the car. The metal there is really thin so all I did was take a small hammer and tap that area inward and it's great now. Goodluck!

I had 275's on my 96 WS6. When I sold the car, they had 14K miles on them. At 15K miles, they didn't pass VA inspection.

I had 13K miles on the TA when I replaced them but they had lots of tread left. A couple of screws did those in.

Both cars had a lot of runs on the tires and they held up fine. You just have to have the right pressure in them for street use. I run 28psi for the street. Anything more and the middle starts to wear faster than the edges.
